The Indira Gandhi Action Team (Ingat) will seek help from the US' FBI to find M Indira Gandi's youngest daughter.
The NGO's chairperson Arun Dorasamy said they will meet with US embassy officials in Kuala Lumpur on March 19 to hand over documents regarding the case of P Prasana Diksa, 11 who can't be traced.
"We hope after the meeting, the US will handle the case which we consider as human trafficking," he told Malaysiakini.
Ingat was established to look for Prasana, who was abducted by Indira's ex-husband Muhammad Riduan Abdullah when the child was aged only 11 months in 2009.
This followed a lengthy court battle which ended in Indira being granted custody.
Arun also said they have lost faith in the way the Malaysian police have dealt with the case so far.
"Although we have given them many new leads, until today, they have not contacted us. Therefore, we are forced to take this case up with the FBI," he said.
Arun added that Ingat has also alerted the Thai police after receiving information that Riduan might be hiding out in southern Thailand.
"Our intention is not to belittle the Malaysian police but we just want to return Prasana safely to her mother."
Ingat had previously offered a RM10,000 reward for anyone who could provide information leading to the arrest of Riduan.
Prasana's two elder siblings live with Indira but the youngest child's location and her father's remains elusive. - Mkini
