Entrepreneur Development Minister Redzuan Yusof is disappointed that his announcement of a private-sector-driven flying car project has met with scepticism and ridicule.
He said while citizens in other nations embrace new technological ideas, Malaysians, however, react in the opposite manner.
"One of the reasons we have not been able to become a respected country is due to our attitude.
"Even if (Albert) Einstein was from Malaysia, we would not become developed if we keep rejecting our entrepreneurs' ideas.
"This (flying car) is not the minister's idea. It is from the entrepreneurs," he told a press conference in Putrajaya after meeting with the Malay Chamber of Commerce Malaysia today.
Redzuan said the technology was the idea of local young entrepreneurs who have expertise in the field.
If successful, he added, the vehicle could be used for security and surveillance purposes as well as in emergencies.
An example, he said, was integrating a facial recognition system in such vehicles to identify undocumented migrants.
He added that such a vehicle can also be used for rescue operations or deploy aid and supplies.
However, Redzuan said those who criticise such technologies should not be blamed as they might lack understanding or knowledge regarding the matter. - Mkini
