Najib concerned over plans to sell Malaysia Building in HK

Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak said he was concerned over media reports that the Malaysian government was looking to sell a 28-storey office tower it owns in Hong Kong.
Speaking to reporters at the Parliament lobby today, Najib said government assets should be held until they appreciated in value while also generating long-term income.
"That is why, in terms of policy, I don't agree with the selling of (government) assets," said Najib, when asked to elaborate on his Facebook post on the topic on March 19.
Najib has made several social media posts regarding the sale of GLC assets, the latest being the rumoured sale of the Malaysia Building in Wanchai, Hong Kong.
The office tower along Gloucester Road houses several Malaysian government agencies including the Consulate-General of Malaysia's office.
Najib urged the federal government to provide details of the proposed sale.
Asked if the move to sell Malaysia Building was wrong in principle, Najib replied: "Yes. It is my concern but I have not seen the details yet."
Najib had previously criticised Putrajaya after Khazanah sold its 16 percent stake in IHH Healthcare Bhd to Japan's Mitsui & Co Ltd. Khazanah still holds a 26 percent stake in the company.
The former premier also rapped the federal government after GLC Boustead Holdings Bhd sold the Royale Chulan Hotel to Singapore's Hotel Royal Ltd for RM197 million.  - Mkini
