Nazri to focus on securing Umno MPs' support for Anwar after losing sec-gen post

Nazri Abdul Aziz has no qualms with BN acting chairperson Mohamad Hasan overturning his appointment as the coalition's secretary-general.

Now left with two positions - the MP for Pandang Rengas and Umno division chief - the former minister said he would concentrate his efforts on two agendas.
The first, he told Malaysiakini, is to secure support among Umno MPs for PKR president Anwar Ibrahim when the latter becomes prime minister.
The second, he added, is to strengthen Umno and PAS' cooperation for the benefit of the Malays.
“I want to ensure Anwar will get support when he becomes PM. I want to focus on getting as many Umno MPs to support him as PM,” he added.
The former minister said he met with Anwar last year and promised him Umno's support in return for sparing the party from dissolution.
Last October, Nazri declared that he is a “hardcore supporter” of Anwar and even volunteered to campaign for the latter when he contested in the Port Dickson by-election.
Commenting further on his removal as secretary-general, Nazri said he would have preferred Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein to be appointed to the post instead of Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
"I would have preferred Hishammuddin, he was an experienced long-time minister... very mild character.
"He would have been good for the job, but Tengku Adnan..," he told Malaysiakini.
Hishammuddin was the BN Youth chief when MIC president SA Vickneswaran and MCA president Wee Ka Siong were their parties' respective Youth chiefs.
Nazri was appointed BN secretary-general last year by the coalition's then chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Following a BN supreme council meeting this morning, Mohamad said the appointment was never finalised.

He added that Tengku Adnan, who held the position since 2009, was still the secretary-general since he did not resign nor was he removed from the post.
Asked about the technical aspects surrounding his removal, Nazri said Zahid would be the best person to answer this.
On the bright side, the former minister said he was "comfortable" not being the secretary-general as this would allow him to speak his mind without having to look "behind his back." - Mkini
