Nga refuses to apologise for 'Taliban state' remark

Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Nga Kor Ming today declined to apologise for saying that the country would turn into a "Taliban state" if an Umno-PAS alliance were to come into power.
"What is there to apologise for?" he asked when met at Parliament lobby today.
Earlier today, Selangor PAS Youth threatened to organise a mega rally if Nga and fellow DAP leaders Lim Guan Eng and Chew Chong Sin did not issue apologies for their purportedly insensitive statements.
Nga appeared unfazed when asked about the move, stating that the group has the right to assemble.
"Let the police handle (the rally). We respect the rule of law, and we also respect the freedom of expression.
"They can organise an assembly so long that it follows the rule of law," he said.
Nga reportedly told members of the Chinese press earlier this month that if an Umno-PAS alliance were to come into federal power, Malaysia could turn into Afghanistan under Taliban rule.
He said that this alliance will harp on issues of race and religion to garner support, and once in power, will implement extreme policies to victimise both non-Malays and moderate Malays.
