KOTA KINABALU: Balung assemblyman Datuk Osman Jamal has joined Parti Warisan Sabah on Monday (March 4), bringing the elected representatives from the Warisan-led government – including its Pakatan Harapan and Upko partners – to 41 out of 60.
Parti Warisan Sabah president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said they decided to officially accept the Umno-turned-independent assemblyman after almost a year deliberating.
“We want to make sure that those leaders we accept are sincere in working for the people and not for their own gains,” he said after receiving Osman’s application letter at his office here.
He said from their observation and feedback from the people, Osman was an assemblyman who often goes down to the grassroots.
Shafie, who is also Sabah chief minister, said that he believes Osman would be able to deliver according to his means as the assemblyman for Balung.
Prior to Osman joining Warisan, he was from Umno and had applied to join PKR, but claims he has yet to get any formal approval from them.
“I will be meeting with my grassroots leaders after this to explain to them further why I finally choose to go with Warisan, though I have already informed them and my supporters of this intention,” Osman said.
He believes by joining Warisan, he will be able to bring more development in terms of infrastructure, utility and socio-economy to the people in Balung.
Apart from him, four others from PKR have also sent in their forms, hoping to join Warisan, but Shafie said he has to consider from all aspects first.
On whether Warisan will be accepting any former Umno representatives into their party anytime soon, Shafie said “not yet”.
“Some have come to meet me and discuss about this matter, but we will see,” he said.
