Singapore to suspend all Boeing 737 MAX flights after crashes

Singapore will temporarily suspend all Boeing 737 MAX flights with effect from 2pm today, its civil aviation authority said, two days after an Ethiopian Airlines crash that killed all 157 on board.

All variants of the aircraft will be suspended from flying into and out of the island repubic in light of the two fatal accidents involving the aircraft in less than five months, it said in a statement today.
The suspension will affect SilkAir, an arm of Singapore Airlines, as well as China Southern Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, Shandong Airlines and Thai Lion Air, it added.
Earlier, Argentina's flag carrier Aerolineas Argentinas said it has temporarily suspended its fleet of five Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft, while Mexican airline Aeromexico said it had suspended the operation of its six Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes.
Yesterday, China's aviation regulator ordered Chinese airlines to suspend operations of the said aircraft by 6pm until further notice.

An Ethiopian Airlines 737 MAX 8 bound for Nairobi crashed minutes after take-off on Sunday, killing all 157 people on board.
It was the second crash of the 737 MAX, the latest version of Boeing's workhorse narrowbody jet that first entered service in 2017.
In October, a 737 MAX 8 operated by Indonesian budget carrier Lion Air crashed 13 minutes after take-off from Jakarta on a domestic flight, killing all 189 passengers and crew on board.
