DAP leaders have lodged police reports demanding action against a stranger who vilified Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng for evicting Malays from the Taman Manggis public housing scheme in Penang and went on to issue a criminal threat against him.
Jelutong MP RSN Rayer lodged the report at the Northeast police headquarters in Penang today over a viralised video of an unknown individual accusing Lim of evicting residents from Taman Manggis "like dogs" .
In the four-minute video clip, the man was also seen threatening Lim that he would be chased out and treated like a dog if he campaigns in the Rantau by-election in Negeri Sembilan.
"This is absolutely untrue," said Rayer, who lodged the report together with Seri Delima assemblyperson Syerleena Abdul Rashid.
"The stranger challenged Lim to go to Rantau, where the by-election campaign is being held, and threatened to act against him if he meets Lim there," Rayer told reporters after lodging the report.
"A video clip of the threat is viral on social media. I urge the police to investigate the case thoroughly and charge the perpetrator in court as soon as possible," added Rayer, who is also a lawyer based in Penang.
"Stop spreading lies and slander, for we know who are involved, while there are also political party organs that accuse the DAP government of chasing Penangites out of their homes.
"Those involved should be held responsible. If we continue to allow these lies to go on, those who do not know the real story will issue serious threats," he added.

Syerleena (photo) said the content of the video is "clearly a threat" against Lim, who is the MP for Bagan and also the assemblyperson for the Air Putih seat in Penang.
"The face of the individual in the video is also very clear, so there is no excuse about not knowing who the person is. We hope swift action can be taken against this person.
"Racial issues, such as those being played by certain quarters, are truly disgusting. We should not allow these to continue," Syerleena said.
She said the Taman Manggis eviction issue has been explained by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, while the Penang Housing Department, led by state executive councillor Jagdeep Singh Deo, and the affected residents have reached an amicable settlement.
"Many of our leaders have made statements based on facts, so please stick to the truth. There is no more excuse now not to act against individuals who slander or threaten others based on lies," she stressed.
Similar report lodged in Butterworth
Meanwhile, Bagan Dalam assemblyperson Satees Muniandy, who lodged a similar police report in Butterworth, said the stranger in the video threatened to "chase Lim out of Rantau like a dog".
"He also said he will treat Lim like this as the evicted residents were treated like dogs. Such threats are unacceptable and can lead to racial conflict if allowed to prolong. Such acts can also result in panic and chaos in our community," Satees said.
A six-day camp-in by residents on the ground floor of Komtar, where state government offices were located, came to an end on Wednesday, after they accepted the state's offer for alternative housing.
The residents were forced to move out of their public housing units in Taman Manggis after losing their eligibility for the houses, which they are only allowed to occupy on a five-year lease, after which an audit would be carried out on whether they still qualify to occupy the units. - Mkini
