Umno-PAS ‘marriage’ makes it harder for PH to win Rantau, says Mat Sabu

Amanah president Mohamad Sabu.
PETALING JAYA: Amanah president Mohamad Sabu today admitted that it will be difficult for Pakatan Harapan (PH) to win the Rantau state seat because of the collaboration between Umno and PAS.
He said the collaboration had given fresh confidence to both parties.
“We have been put on the defensive at the moment but our opponents are on the offensive. Since they (Umno and PAS) are ‘married’, they feel stronger,” he said at a Karangkraf programme here.
“Rantau is difficult and we need to work harder,” said Mat Sabu.
The Rantau by-election, the seventh since the May 9 polls, will be held on April 13.
It was triggered by the Election Court’s decision last November to allow PKR candidate Dr Streram Sinnasamy’s petition for fresh polls.
Streram filed the petition on May 23, 2018 to nullify the Election Commission’s decision to declare BN’s Mohamad Hasan, who was previously menteri besar, the winner of the Rantau seat.
PAS and Umno previously gave way to each other in last year’s by-elections in Sungai Kandis and Seri Setia. They formalised their cooperation at a meeting held earlier this week. - Mkini
