Video of dead fish in Pasir Gudang fake - Fisheries Dept

A viral video showing hundreds of floating dead fish allegedly due to pollution in Pasir Gudang is fake according to the Fisheries Department.

A spokesperson told Malaysiakini that no incident such as the one portrayed in the video had occurred anywhere in Pasir Gudang.
"That video is false. There is no such incident near Sungai Kim-Kim, or near Kong Kong (village)," the spokesperson said.
The department's Johor Bahru district chief Pravin Selvaraja said they have contacted all fish farms in Pasir Gudang and found that no farms have reported any such incident.
"There is no problem of fish dying," Pravin said.
He added that the only aquatic farm near Sungai Kim Kim rears prawns and not fish.

The owner, he said, had stopped channelling water from the river the moment he learned of the pollution.
Suspected chemical waste dumping at Sungai Kim Kim has caused toxic pollution in the area.
Hundreds have had to seek medical treatment, while all schools in the area have been closed. - Mkini
