Welfare aid – 'wakil rakyat' signature no longer required

Those applying for aid from the Social Welfare Department (JKM) no longer have to obtain signatures of their people's representatives for the application form.
Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Hannah Yeoh said the ministry made the decision following numerous complaints from applicants that the process was burdensome, more so if the MPs or assemblypersons had different political views.
"Prior to this, we didn't know that the applicants had to find politicians who represented the constituency. There were complaints from several places that if the applicants didn't support the representative's party, the latter wouldn't sign the form.
"(So) the column in the form for these signatures has been removed. From now, if they want to apply for aid from the JKM, they don't have to find the MP or the assemblyperson," Yeoh told the media at the Parliament lobby today.
Other than people's representatives, those who can sign the form include village chiefs and the village development and security committee (JKKK) chiefs.
To make the application process even easier, Yeoh said the 10-page application form has now been reduced to only three pages. - Mkini
