Police this afternoon recorded a statement from PKR president Anwar Ibrahim over the sexual misconduct allegation against him.
When contacted, federal CID prosecution and legal division principal assistant director Mior Faridalathrash Wahid confirmed this.
He told Malaysiakini that Anwar arrived at about 3.45pm and spent about an hour-and-a-half at the Bukit Aman federal police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
"Police recorded his statement at 3.45pm for about an hour-and-a-half following the report filed by the accuser and another report (from Anwar's side) against the accuser.
"He left Bukit Aman at about 6pm," Mior said.
In a statement later, Anwar said he cooperated fully with the police in regards to the investigation.
"Throughout the process, I have furnished facts and cooperated fully with the police.
"After that, they (the police) and my lawyer Ramkarpal Singh went to my residence to complete their investigation," he said.
He lauded the police for carrying the investigation professionally.
On Dec 7, Anwar's former research officer Muhammed Yusoff Rawther filed a police report on the incident which purportedly took place in October last year.
Three days prior to lodging his police report, Yusoff had revealed a statutory declaration he had made alleging that he was sexually assaulted by Anwar.
Anwar has denied the allegation and said that his private secretary Shukri Saad had lodged a report on the matter.
On Monday, Yusoff, accompanied by his lawyer Haniff Khatri Abdulla, spent almost eight hours having his statement recorded at Bukit Aman before continuing with another session about four hours long the following day.
Police are investigating the case under Section 354 of the Penal Code for assault or use of criminal force on a person with intent to outrage modesty. - Mkini
