KUALA LUMPUR: Anwar Ibrahim’s lawyer Ramkarpal Singh said he would have brought a notice of demand on Muhammed Yusoff Rawther had he known that the former staff of the PKR president was at the Bukit Aman police headquarters to give a statement on his client’s alleged sexual misconduct.
Ramkarpal, who arrived at Bukit Aman some three hours after Yusoff and lawyer Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla, was there to accompany DAP’s Ronnie Liu who is being investigated over a gathering of former Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) members.
When met by reporters, Ramkarpal said he had been trying to deliver the notice to Yusoff at the latter’s address in Penang, but failed.
“We tried to serve it but it was returned to my office with a note that he is not residing there,” he said.
“If I had known he’d be here, I would have brought the notice of demand,” he added, and said the notice could also be given to Haniff if he had received instructions from Yusoff to accept it on his behalf.
Yusoff had arrived with Haniff to give a statement to Bukit Aman’s Classified Criminal Investigation Unit (D5) which is investigating claims he made in a statutory declaration which has since gone viral on social media.
Among others, Yusoff said he was sexually assaulted by Anwar on Oct 2 last year, an accusation rejected by the PKR leader.
Anwar, through the notice of demand, wants Yusoff to retract his claim.
Meanwhile, Ramkarpal told reporters that Liu was called in as a witness in the probe into the meeting of ex-CPM members.
The case is being investigated under Section 505C of the Penal Code for incitement between communities.
“Ronnie gave his full cooperation,” he added. - FMT
