Bukit Aman: Police want to see Azilah's SD first

Police want to see the statutory declaration (SD) implicating former premier Najib Abdul Razak in Altantuya Shaariibuu's murder first before deciding next course of action, said Bukit Aman.

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Huzir Mohamad (above) told reporters earlier this evening that they would have to verify the SD, which was made by former police Special Action Unit (UTK) officer Azilah Hadri.
"We have not even seen the SD yet.
"Unless you can bring it to us," said Huzir, when asked at a press conference in Shah Alam.

He was asked if police would consider reopening Altantuya murder probe and call Najib for questioning based on the SD made by Azilah, who is now on death row at Kajang prison for murdering the Mongolian model in 2006.

When pressed further if police are going to send investigators to interview the inmate at the prison, Huzir said: "The authenticity (of the SD) is also yet to be known. We will decide later."

Earlier today, Malaysiakini reported that Azilah had made an explosive allegation in the SD, where he alleged that the order to kill Altantuya came from Najib and his close associate, Abdul Razak Baginda.

In the SD dated Oct 17, 2019, Azilah claimed Najib, who was then deputy prime minister, ordered him to “arrest and destroy” Altantuya, whom Najib allegedly described as a "foreign spy" and a "threat to national security".
"I asked the DPM (deputy prime minister) what he meant by arrest and destroy the foreign spy, he responded: 'Shoot to kill', and indicating it with a 'slit the throat' gesture.
"When asked the purpose of destroying the foreign spy with explosives, the DPM replied: 'Dispose of the foreign spy's body with an explosive device to remove the traces and the explosives can be obtained from the UTK store (armoury)'."
Najib had since denied the claim, reiterating that he had never met Altantuya.
The politician also claimed that the allegation of him ordering the murder of Altantuya would allow the authorities to detain him without bail. - Mkini
