DAP accused of bringing in phantom voters from China

UMNO AGM | The recent Auditor-General's report for 2018 revealed that 95 percent of Chinese and Indian tourists who entered Malaysia between 2016 and 2018 had no record of leaving the country.

While their whereabouts are yet to be determined, a Penang Umno delegate has linked the missing Chinese nationals to DAP.

In his debate at the Umno general assembly, Bukit Gelugor Umno division delegate Omar Faudzar (photo) accused DAP of bringing in phantom voters to vote Umno out in last year's general election.

"Look at this, 95 percent of the Chinese and Indians entered Malaysia with no record of leaving the country. We don't know where they went.

"Try to imagine this (together) with what we heard about the MyKad (syndicate scandal)," he said, referring to the incident where 20 were nabbed and some charged for selling citizenship to Chinese nationals recently.

"A friend of mine found out that a Chinese national obtained a MyKad and registered as a voter in Selangor. But, this morning I conducted a check and his record is not in the Election Commission's data," he said.

"What if the Chinese stayed here (in Malaysia) and obtained MyKads. What if we have 5,000 (new) Chinese voters in every constituency," asked Omar.

"This is serious. Do not think that it is not a serious issue," said Omar, pointing out to the recent MyKad syndicate scandal in Penang.

He urged Umno lawmakers to pursue the matter and not to let DAP divert attention until Umno lawmakers themselves forget about it.

"This is the strategy of DAP against us.

"Their (DAP) strategies are far better than ours, what they need now is the number. Politics is a game of numbers.

"But when it lack in the numbers, it is possible for it to get phantoms voters from another country.

"Please check because it has many strategies, which are meant to cause a problem for the Malays," he said.

The audit report found that 79,799 Chinese tourists arrived through the Malaysian immigration system, while a total 76,258 or 95.6 percent have no records of exit dates.

However, Immigration Department director-general Khairul Dzaimee Daud said the figures were wrong as only 18,341 individuals have yet to leave the country. - Mkini
