PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Education has terminated the services of some contractors for the supply of cooked food after false bank statements were found in their tender documents, the ministry said today.
It said that the action was taken after allegations that false bank statements were submitted by bidders when participating in tenders for contracts beginning Jan 1 this year.
“As a result the ministry has taken steps to review the bank statements of all the contractors who were successful after the tendering process and it was found that some BMB (cooked food) contractors have submitted false bank statements.
“The service contracts of those involved were terminated and police reports lodged for further investigation,” said the statement.
The ministry said measures would be taken to ensure that no one would be able to manipulate the procurement process for security services, janitorial services, and supply of cooked food for contracts starting from Jan 1, 2020.
The tender process involved 1,652 services tenders. “As there were numerous bidders involved, the ministry encountered difficulties in verifying the validity of the bank statements with the related banks,” the statement said.
Existing contractors would be allowed to continue operating until the new contractors have been confirmed to be of good standing, it said. - FMT
