Floodwaters breach eight-feet mark at remote longhouse in northern Sarawak

MIRI: Floodwaters breached the eight-feet (2.4m) mark on Friday (Dec 20) at a Rumah Gasah longhouse in the Beluru district in northern Sarawak.
The is the highest level so far in northern Sarawak since floods hit two weeks ago.
Rumah Gasah has 34 occupants who are now housed on the upper tier of the longhouse as its first floor was completely inundated.
The second highest level was recorded at Kpg Setinggan Bakong, also in the Beluru district.
That village of 150 people is facing floodwaters of 2.2m.
The Beluru Fire And Rescue Department said there are 37 households in that village, and units are also checking on affected villages.
Elsewhere in the Beluru district, there are another 24 settlements and schools that are flooded.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department has deployed teams to the flooded areas.
Civil Defence Units are helping with food aid delivery to affected residents and evacuation where necessary.
Over in the Marudi district, floods have eased compared to last week.
