PETALING JAYA: A royal commission of inquiry (RCI) should be formed into the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu, says Datuk Ibrahim Ali.
The Parti Bumiputra Perkasa Malaysia (Putra) president said that the action by former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in taking an oath of divine retribution amid an explosive statutory declaration by a convicted killer is a reason enough for the government to form an RCI.
"The case of the murder of Altantuya has been so muddled for over a decade and has been politicised to the maximum. The SD by Azilah makes it more controversial, with many more questions raised.
"The oath by Najib at the Kampung Baru mosque over this has also been overly politicised as there were calls for other politicians to take a similar oath when dealing with such matters."
He also said that the trivialisation of religion for the purpose of politics by Muslim politicians have also allowed non-Muslim to question Islam.
"I ask the government and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to quickly form an RCI so that the questions will be answered over Altantuya's murder," said Ibrahim in a statement on Friday (Dec 20).
Earlier, Najib took a sumpah laknat (swearing in the face of divine retribution) to deny former police commando Azilah Hadri's SD from behind the gallows that he had ordered the execution of Altantuya.
Azilah and former colleague Sirul Azhar Umar were sentenced to death over the killing in 2006.
While Azilah is in Kajang Prison, Sirul had requested for asylum in Australia. - Star
