PETALING JAYA – Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has rubbished the allegation that he gave the order to kill Altantuya Shaariibu.
Convicted killer Azilah Hadri has said he was instructed to kill the Mongolian national by Najib and his close associate, Abdul Razak Baginda.
The allegation by Azilah made from death row in Kajang prison, Malaysiakini reported in an exclusive report today.
He said merely following an explicit “shoot to kill” order as a member of the elite special action force (UTK) of the police.
Najib questioned why the allegation appeared today and not revealed earlier. “Why did this information not come out earlier, and only now, more than a decade after her death and only after 19 months PH (Pakatan Harapan) has been in power?” Najib asked.
Hazman Ahmad, who is Azilah’s lawyer, has been reported as saying he was not involved in the preparation of the statutory declaration sighted by Malaysiakini, adding that they last met “two or three years ago”. – Thesundaily
Najib dismisses claims he ordered Altantuya’s murder
FORMER prime minister Najib Razak today denies fresh allegations that he was involved in the killing of Altantuya Shaariibuu, as alleged by former police Special Action Force (UTK) operative Azilah Hadri, Malaysiakini reports.
Najib had questioned the timing of Azilah allegations, saying that this could be a plot by the Pakatan Harapan administration to divert public attention from its shortcomings.
“This is a complete fabrication by a desperate person seeking to escape the gallows.
“Why did this information not come out earlier, and only now, more than a decade after her death and only after 19 months Harapan has been in power?” he was quoted in the report.
Azilah in a statutory declaration had claimed that Najib had met him and ordered Altantuya’s killing.
Najib said he believed a deal was struck between PH and Azilah, with the latter’s death sentence being commuted or delayed in return.
“This is an attempt to distract attention and to hit out at me.
“I also maintain that I never met Altantuya despite Azilah’s claims.”
As for the SD, Najib said that anyone can do an SD, especially if the person is already on death row.
“If you were to believe SDs then you should also believe the recent SD made against the 8th (incoming) PM,” he said in reference to the sexual misconduct allegations against PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.
Najib also welcomed fresh police investigation into the claims, saying that it was reported that police sources had said there was no evidence linking him to any high-profile murders.
Azilah, who is on death row in Kajang Prison, is seeking a review of the Federal Court’s decision and a re-trial.
He is claiming that Najib and the latter’s close associate Abdul Razak Baginda had instructed him to kill Altantuya.
Azilah alleged that both of them had described the Mongolian national as a foreign spy, who was a threat to national security.
Recalling an alleged meeting with Najib in Pekan in 2006, Azilah said Najib, who was deputy prime minister at the time, had ordered him to “arrest and destroy” Altantuya.
“I asked the DPM (deputy prime minister) what he meant by arrest and destroy the foreign spy, he responded: ‘Shoot to kill’, and indicating it with a ‘slit the throat’ gesture.
“When asked the purpose of destroying the foreign spy with explosives, the DPM replied: ‘Dispose the foreign spy’s body with an explosive device to remove the traces and the explosives can be obtained from the UTK store (armoury)’,” he alleged.
Azilah also claimed that he saw Najib and Razak Baginda meeting Altantuya at a condominium in London.
