Ismail Bakar denies report on transfer of ministry sec-gens

Chief Secretary to the Government Ismail Bakar has denied that a major reshuffle of senior civil servants will take place at the end of this month.
The reshuffle is believed to be part of a move to deal with an alleged ''deep state'' within the civil service.
"Not true," Ismail told reporters when met after the Congress of Union of Employees in the Public and Civil Services Malaysia's (Cuepacs) triannual congress in Shah Alam today.
Quizzed on a report quoting a government source who claimed that five ministry secretaries-general were expected to be transferred this week, Ismail again said: "Not true. You should be asking the writer of the report.

"I have not formally heard anything. That is all public perception."
The report by The Malaysian Insight yesterday also stated the purported transfers were ordered following ministers' requests to ensure smoother operations in their respective ministries.
Ismail, today, however, denied receiving such requests.
"There was none," he said.
Aside from the purported transfers, the report further indicated that "many" civil servants near retirement age have been released earlier while those on contracts did not have them extended.
The source was quoted to have said that Ismail himself, due for retirement at the age of 60 on Jan 9 next year, would not be retained as chief secretary to the government.
Various Harapan ministers had in recent months alluded to the existence of a "deep state" allegedly out to undermine the government.
The term "deep state" refers to a "state within a state" entity pursuing its own agenda outside that of the national political leadership.
Most recently, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has said he will look into the allegations of the existence of a "deep state" after questions were raised over the transfer of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Ministry secretary-general Mohd Sallehhuddin Hassan. - Mkini
