Muafakat Nasional technical committee report ready by Feb

UMNO AGM | The report by the Muafakat Nasional technical committee will be ready by February next year, said Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan.

Among other matters, the committee will decide whether Muafakat Nasional should be a formal entity by itself or whether it should be open to other BN component parties.

"There are no decisions yet to formalise Muafakat Nasional. Whether or not we do it, depends on the technical committee's recommendations which consist of Umno and PAS representatives.

"The report will be released in February," he told reporters at the sidelines of the Umno annual general assembly in Kuala Lumpur today.

He explained that the charter signed between Umno and PAS earlier this year only provided a framework for the cooperation between the two parties.

"It is an understanding among (Umno and PAS). For instance, if a decision was made in Parliament, we will act (together) as an opposition block," he said.

Mohamad was asked for a status update on the technical committee's discussions in view of Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki's suggestions for Muafakat Nasional during his policy speech at the Umno Youth AGM.

Asyraf had suggested that Muafakat Nasional be expanded to include BN component parties MCA and MIC as well as BN-friendly parties. - Mkini
