AYER KEROH: A PKR Youth delegate has challenged Mohamed Azmin Ali to openly state that he supports PKR president Anwar Ibrahim as the country’s next prime minister.
Speaking to FMT after debating the PKR Youth chief’s policy speech, Sabah PKR Youth information chief Mohammad Razeef Rakimin also said those who do not back Anwar as prime minister could “get lost”.
“In politics, we have to support our president, more so when he has been chosen by Pakatan Harapan parties to become our next prime minister.
“When people do not support (Anwar), they are going against the party and pushing their own agenda,” he said, adding that such members should not remain in the party.
Razeef noted Azmin’s comment yesterday that he supported Anwar and that the party would defend the president against the latest allegations levelled against him.
On Wednesday, Muhammed Yusoff Rawther, 26, grandson of the late consumer advocate SM Mohamed Idris, had claimed that Anwar had committed a crime against him which he described as “un-Islamic, vile, insidious and morally repugnant”.
Anwar has dismissed the claim.
Razeef said if Azmin really supports Anwar, he should openly state that he backs him to be the next prime minister in his speech at the national congress.
“If he does not do this, his statement that he will defend Anwar against the slanderous allegations is not sincere,” he said.
Under an agreement struck by PH before the 14th general election, Dr Mahathir Mohamad is to hand over power to Anwar, although no timeline for this has been set.
Anwar has said that he expects to take over by May 10, 2020 – two years after PH wrested Putrajaya from Barisan Nasional – but Azmin has called for Mahathir to complete a full term as premier.
Meanwhile, Perak PKR Youth delegate Mohamad Rukhairil Aizat Mohamad Maharani called on leaders who did not attend party meetings without a valid reason to resign.
“I propose that after this, whoever does not attend meetings, we enforce the rules,” he said when debating the PKR Youth chief’s policy speech.
“The disciplinary board (should) drop them and we appoint others who are more qualified.”
It has been reported that a number of top leaders have not been attending party meetings amid rumours of a rift between Anwar and Azmin.
