PKR AGM | PKR advisory council chairperson Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has urged all quarters to stay cool following the fracas which took place at the PKR Youth congress this morning.
"When (PKR deputy president) Azmin Ali came yesterday, he was cool, there was no issue.
"We want everybody to be cool lah. Do not provoke. If you provoke, then it will become one kind.
"We have a lot of agent provocateurs, I am not accusing anyone. Let the police do their investigations," Wan Azizah said at a press conference after she closed the PKR Youth and Women's congress at the Malacca International Trade Centre (MITC) today.
In the midst of rising tensions between PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and Azmin's factions over the staging of the national congress, the two leaders had met on Wednesday in what appeared to be an attempt at reconciliation.
Following the meeting, it was decided that Azmin would officiate both the women and youth wings' congress after his invitation to officiate the youth congress was rescinded earlier.
Azmin received a raucous welcome at last night's opening of the PKR Women and Youth congress and his speech took a reconciliatory tone overall.
However, the Youth congress today started with a ruckus when some people who claimed to be Youth delegates were barred from entering.
In the afternoon, the tension escalated into a brawl which dragged on for almost an hour causing several people to be injured.
Wan Azizah also responded to PKR Youth deputy chief Hilman Idham who had said he and his supporters decided not to attend the afternoon session of the congress due to "security concerns".
"What to do, if you don't want to come, then don't come lah," she quipped, before changing her tune.
"Come lah, this is our congress, right? They are the delegates, they are welcome to come," she said.
When a reporter attempted to ask her about something Hilman said, she cut him off before he could complete his question.
"Ah, tell him to attend the meetings, thank you very much," said Wan Azizah. - Mkini
