KUALA LUMPUR: A Kedah Wanita Umno leader has urged the party’s Supreme Council to maintain the party’s unity, saying they were “uncomfortable” hearing about certain top leaders promising rewards to party members.
Wanita Umno’s Kuala Kedah division chief Noor Hasita Mat Isa said some leaders had promised funds, election candidacies and even minister posts should Barisan Nasional retake Putrajaya in the next general election, adding that this could cause disunity in the party.
“Please stop this. Talk like this will split our unity because we’ve suffered a defeat in the polls but are trying to achieve victory again. We want to take back Putrajaya,” she said in her speech at the wing’s meeting at PWTC here today.
Hasita also said the women’s wing was unhappy with the actions of a few Umno leaders who have given the party a bad image, urging them to take care of the party’s needs first.
She said top leaders should not be fighting among themselves as Malaysians are watching their actions, adding that people were looking for a suitable political party to join.
“At this time, we must focus on Pakatan Harapan (PH) because PH has a lot of weaknesses, whether in managing the country or handling the various parties.”
Hasita also slammed certain Umno MPs who are quiet in the Dewan Rakyat but are vocal outside, urging them to fully utilise their platform in Parliament to expose PH’s shortcomings.
“This is what we don’t want. When outside of Parliament, they talk bravely.” - FMT
