Yoursay: Malaysians don’t need moral policing from DBKL

YOURSAY | ‘Whoever gives this type of directive is just plain stupid and ridiculous.’
JW: When non-Muslims react negatively to Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) decision, they will be accused of ‘threatening’ Muslims, who would claim they are ‘victimised’ by non-Muslims. The non-Muslims will then be criticised for causing disunity among the races.

None of this would have mattered had DBKL not acted like a retard and a bigot. Case in point was the International Tattoo Expo Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur recently.
DBKL is acting like the Taliban in pulling the plug on the Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant 2019. Again, what part of this pageant, which is a non-Muslim event, you did not understand, DBKL?
DBKL is creating an issue out of nothing because it clearly states that no Muslims can participate in the Astro event. Is that not enough to say Muslims should also stay away from it?
Malaysian-United: Look, you hypocrites. First of all, why would a “good” Muslim watch some women in bikinis? Aren’t there other TV channels you can switch to?
Secondly, what's to stop a “good” Muslim from not watching Astro bikini girls but instead turn to 24/7 porn on the Internet at the click of the mouse? Isn't that a "better" alternative than watching half-naked women on Astro?
Thirdly, rather than just watch, what is stopping people from visiting prostitutes or having illicit sexual affairs? Are the self-righteous Pak Lebai spying on every living person in the country to see that they do not violate religious tenets?
Also, who is watching the Pak Lebai? They themselves, you must admit, are not infallible and completely innocent of sinful acts.
If you want to do "sinful" acts there is nothing stopping you. If you don't want to fall into sin, you will do all it takes to walk away from it. You don't need DBKL's or Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia’s (Jakim) intervention for that.
Odysseus: This is a non-Muslim event, please stay out. Do not impose your values onto others. Please keep your values to yourself and we will keep ours to ourselves.
Freethinker: Pakatan Harapan, things are getting worse under your rule.
Even under the BN era, we did not have such nonsense. Islamist is creeping into your administration day by day and we see more restrictions each day.
Alban: Dear DBKL, Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad and Harapan, if you apply even five percent of the effort that you spend on moral policing to things that actually matter, the nation will move forward.
For example, rubbish collection, gerai haram (illegal hawker stalls) along pedestrian walkways and illegal parking, among others.
TehTarik: A segment of our population think Malaysia is the most pious and religious country in Asia. In theory, if we listen to the sermons of our leaders, we should be the beacon of morality in the world.
Probably, we are even more pure and pristine than Saudi Arabia. However, Saudis are becoming more liberal while we are heading in the opposite direction.
DBKL may think they are incorruptible, honest and ethical, hence, have self-appointed themselves as guardians of our morality.
Goks: In this day and age, is the bikini still a thing? I find it demeaning to women.
What are these pageants trying to prove by parading women in bikinis? Miss America and Miss World beauty pageants have already dropped bikini rounds in its finals. In Malaysia, the Miss Malaysia-India pageant, which has been running for close to 18 years, has no bikini category either.
When will other pageants follow suit and understand that the world does not need to judge women purely on appearance to rank beauty?
Vijay47: Sentul Police chief S Shanmugamoorthy Chinnia, I am writing this slowly so that neither of us gets confused with the issue.
So you, ever the true Cleisthenien democrat, merely advised the organisers to drop the bikini portion of their beauty contest. You did not direct them to cancel the bikini element since that is not “within your jurisdiction”. For the organisers to get mixed up between suggestion and direction, was your notice to them written in khat?
Pray tell us what in the world prompted to come out with this advice (not order)? Perhaps you believe that the vision of fair ladies in eye-popping swimsuits, or costumes that “poke the eye” as some people are given to describe the experience, would prompt those at the function to “react in the Chinese way” and run riot.
By the way, is it your usual practice to generously offer unsolicited advice “outside your jurisdiction"?
In any case, you are a worthy member of our police force and colleague of police chief Abdul Hamid Bador. There is also the possibility that your distress was caused by erroneously concluding that the participants would be not in bikinis but in Birkins.
BH Yap: Is the police in Malaysia evolving into moral police as well? It's not even in the jurisdiction to advise on this. Don't tell us about your non-binding advice. Just stick to security issues.
The Third Man: Whoever gives this type of directive is just plain stupid and ridiculous. Why cause such unnecessary issues?
Don’t go around being moral police; you aren’t paid to do that job. Concentrate on serious crimes like drugs, gang activities, etc. Build a police force of credible officers respected for their discipline, integrity and honour.
Clever Voter: From gymnastics gear to length of skirts, those in government pretend to be whiter than white when they think of sex all the time. What a laugh.
Anonymous_2679c6e5: Why are the authorities from a certain group of people always not able to control themselves when it comes to people’s attire or the lack of it? They are always blaming others when they can’t control themselves.
Wira: Soon, we may also expect the police to advise the management of swimming pools in private clubs not to allow the wearing of bikinis in their pools. - Mkini
