Anti-graft officers on Wednesday arrested three directors of a company over suspicion of bribery involving a Tourism Malaysia contract worth over RM90 million.
According to sources close to the case, the three suspects aged between 31 and 48 were detained at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya when they came for questioning.
"They were suspected to have committed bribery to acquire a contract to do advertising promotion for Tourism Malaysia in 2019.
"We have also identified officers of the government agency believed to have been in cohorts with them, and expecting to make more arrests soon," said a source.
According to sources, initial investigations also led investigators to believe that the company had supplied false documents and information to enable them to qualify in the tender process for the project.
The company was also allegedly not qualified to carry out the contract and had failed technical and financial assessments.
"However, due to the bribes paid to people inside the agency, all the basic conditions were set aside to allow the company to get the contract."
The case is being investigated under Section 17(a) and Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
When contacted, MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed the arrests.
He said all the suspects were taken to the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court this morning for remand. - Mkini
