Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad today urged the Malays to eliminate their fear of the DAP.
In a post uploaded on his blog, Mahathir said former premier Najib Abdul Razak and Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin have played by the narrative that the DAP will destroy the Malays.
Mahathir stressed that the DAP is just a political party, not a global institution such as the International Monetary Fund or World Bank which could be feared.
"What does DAP have which makes us (the Malays) afraid that it will destroy us?
"It's baseless to say that DAP is controlling Pakatan Harapan and I.
"Najib, who is afraid of being imprisoned, has deceived you," he said.
The Langkawi MP said after being rejected by the people, Najib (photo) had played with the fears of the Malays so he could be accepted into "the backdoor government".
"Najib did it by using a Malay who's obsessed with becoming the prime minister.
"His stepson (Riza Aziz) has been acquitted. If the people don't oppose, with permission from Muhyiddin, Najib, too, could be free from being imprisoned.
"Do we think that Najib is so kind as to help Muhyiddin to become the prime minister and he himself goes to prison?
"Think about it," he added.
Mahathir said the Malays have proven to be resilient throughout the Malay history.
Unlike other civilisations such as the Aztec, Greek, Roman, and Egypt, the Malays were never destroyed although they were attacked by the Portuguese, British, Japanese, and the Siamese.
He said the Malay administration managed to defeat the communists in 1960, only three years after the country gained independence from the British.
During the 1969 racial riots, the country managed to overcome the problem and continued to prosper.
"In this world, only the Malays were bold enough to oppose the views of the majority.
"We openly lambasted (former US president) George W Bush for attacking Iraq, causing riots in other Islamic countries, and supporting Israel.
"We don't agree with (US President Donald) Trump. At the United Nations, we clearly rejected the US' stand on Israel."
He said despite the bravery, there are now Malays who are afraid of the DAP.
"They are under the impression that DAP can destroy the Malays.
"These hypocrites don't deserve to call themselves Malays. The same goes to their followers," he said.
Muhyiddin took out Bersatu from Pakatan Harapan and formed Perikatan Nasional with the then opposition parties including Umno and PAS after securing enough MPs.
Subsequently, Mahathir and several Bersatu MPs aligned to him were sacked from the party.
They have continued working with Pakatan Harapan in a bid to wrestle the government back from PN. - Mkini
