A former minister and former deputy minister from Warisan have been appointed leading positions in two Sabah government-linked companies.
According to Astro Awani, former international trade and industry minister Darell Leiking (above) is Sabah Oil and Gas Development Corporation Sdn Bhd's (SOGDC) new chairperson while former deputy home minister Azis Jamman is Warisan Harta Sabah Sdn Bhd chairperson.
Chief Minister Mohd Shafie Apdal confirmed the appointments yesterday, reportedly saying the two were given the posts as they were qualified and experienced.
Leiking is also Penampang MP while Azis (below) is Sepanggar MP.
This despite the chief minister previously asserting, prior to GE14, that elected representatives will not be allowed to helm any GLCs if Warisan formed the state government.
“I know they (Leiking and Azis) are experienced and qualified, but we (the state) must also look for others with qualifications and determine where to place them.
“Many GLCs are headed by non-elected representatives. If one or two, I will look at their qualifications, and not just because they are MPs.
“This is not because I receive (their) support as I do not use (GLC) positions as a way to garner support,” he was quoted as saying at a press conference in Kota Kinabalu. - Mkini
