PETALING JAYA: The PPBM Supreme Council today confirmed the termination of Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s membership, along with that of four other MPs, following a meeting of the party’s top leaders last night.
“The Supreme Council’s interpretation of the termination of their membership is final,” PPBM secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said in a statement.
He added that the council had reaffirmed its decision for PPBM to join the Perikatan Nasional administration, saying this was in line with the party’s goals, purposes and principles.
Mahathir, who founded the party, was sacked along with his son Mukhriz, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, Amiruddin Hamzah and Maszlee Malik for joining the opposition bench in the recent Dewan Rakyat sitting.
Hamzah also said the Supreme Council had reaffirmed his appointment as secretary-general, replacing Marzuki Yahya who was removed from the post, as in line with the party’s constitution.
“The Supreme Council also confirmed that Muhammad Suhaimi Yahya had served as the legal organising secretary and that any notice signed by the organising secretary is official.
“With the reaffirmations and resolutions made at last night’s Supreme Council meeting, I urge all members and grassroots leaders to remain united with the party in our struggle to uphold our religion, race and country.”
Hamzah also said the Supreme Council wished to thank its former chairman Mahathir, former deputy president Mukhriz and former youth chief Syed Saddiq as well as all Supreme Council members who had left the party for their contributions and sacrifices. - FMT
