MEDITATION

WHAT IS MEDITATION?

Meditation is relaxation. It is not about concentration; it is actually about de-concentration. It is not about focusing one’s thoughts on one thing, but instead on becoming thoughtless.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF MEDITATION?
·         A calm mind
·         Good concentration
·         Better clarity
·         Improved communication
·         Relaxation and rejuvenation of the mind and body

HEALTH BENEFITS OF MEDITATION

With meditation, the physiology undergoes a change and every cell in the body is filled with more energy. This results in joy, peace, enthusiasm as the level of the energy in the body increases.

On a physical level, meditation:
·         Lowers high blood pressure
·         Lowers the levels of blood lactate, reducing anxiety attacks
·         Decreases any tension-related pain, such as tension headaches, ulcers, insomnia, muscle and joint problems
·         Increases serotonin production that improves mood and behavior
·         Improves the immune system
·         Increases the energy level, as you gain an inner source of energy

MENTAL BENEFITS OF MEDITATION

Meditation brings the brainwave pattern into an alpha state that promotes healing. The mind becomes fresh, delicate and beautiful. It cleanses and nourishes you from within and calms you, whenever you feel overwhelmed, unstable, or emotionally shut down. With regular practice of meditation:
·         Anxiety decreases
·         Emotional stability improves
·         Creativity increases
·         Happiness increases
·         Intuition develops
·         Gain clarity and peace of mind
·         Problems become smaller
·         Meditation sharpens the mind by gaining focus and expands through relaxation
·         A sharp mind without expansion causes tension, anger and frustration
·         An expanded consciousness without sharpness can lead to lack of action/progress
·         The balance of a sharp mind and an expanded consciousness brings perfection
Meditation makes you aware - that your inner attitude determines your happiness.

SPIRITUAL BENEFITS OF MEDITATION

Meditation does not have a religion and can be practiced by anybody regardless of the faith they follow.
·         Effortless transition from being something to merging with the infinite and recognizing yourself as an inseparable part of the whole cosmos.
·         In a meditative state, you are in a space of vastness, calmness, and joy and this is what you emit into the environment, bringing harmony to the Creation.
·         Meditation can bring about a true personal transformation. As you learn more about yourself, you will naturally start discovering more about yourself and love yourself.

HOW TO MEDITATE

Meditation is simpler than most people think. Read these steps, make sure you are in an ideal place where you can relax into this process, set a timer, and give it a shot:

1) Take a seat

Find a place to sit that feels calm and quiet to you.

2) Set a time limit

If you are just beginning, it can help to choose a short time, such as five or 10 minutes.

3) Notice your body

You can sit in a chair with your feet on the floor, you can sit loosely cross-legged, you can kneel - all are fine. Just make sure you are stable and, in a position, you can stay in for a while.

4) Feel your breath

Follow the sensation of your breath as it goes in and as it goes out.

5) Notice when your mind has wandered

Inevitably, your attention will leave the breath and wander to other places. When you get around to noticing that your mind has wandered - in a few seconds, a minute, five minutes - simply return your attention to the breath.

6) Be kind to your wandering mind

Do not judge yourself or obsess over the content of the thoughts you find yourself lost in. Just come back.

7) Close with kindness

When you are ready, gently lift your gaze (if your eyes are closed, open them). Take a moment and notice any sounds in the environment. Notice how your body feels right now. Notice your thoughts and emotions
.
That is meditation! That is the practice. You go away, you come back, and you try to do it as kindly as possible.
