RM50 e-wallet credit conditional on downloading MySejahtera app

Malaysiakini
The government’s MySejahtera app will be a prerequisite for those seeking to redeem the RM50 e-wallet credit previously announced by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin as part of the National Economic Recovery Plan (Penjana).
Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this is to encourage more people to download and use the app.
“This application enables the Health Ministry to take prompt, precise, and effective action to identify and alert close contacts if there is a Covid-19 infection in the community.
“As announced by Muhyiddin in his Penjana address, the government will credit RM50 into users’ e-wallet after they download the MySejahtera app, to encourage the use of the app,” he said at his daily press conference on the Covid-19 situation today.
For the record, Muhyiddin did not mention any preconditions for the RM50 e-wallet credit when announcing Penjana on Friday last week.
In his announcement, he said the government would channel RM50 to consumers’ e-wallets under the Program ePenjana scheme to encourage contactless payments.
In turn, e-wallet service providers will match the government’s contribution through vouchers, rebates, and discounts worth RM50.
Program ePenjana is worth RM750 million, and will benefit 15 million Malaysians when it begins in July this year, he said.
Muhyiddin had only mentioned the MySejahtera app once in his speech, where he used it as an example of information sources that people could access using the 1GB free internet data announced under the Penjana plan.
The MySejahtera app is one of several smartphone applications released by the government as part of its Covid-19 response.
Apart from providing the latest information on the pandemic, users can use the app to scan QR codes and “check-in” at participating locations in lieu of manually filling contact tracing information.
It is also used to monitor people undergoing home quarantine, including those returning from abroad after June 10.
The app complements the government’s MyTrace app, which is a Bluetooth-based contact tracing app.
