Noh Omar: My resignation as MISC chief has nothing to do with politics

PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Noh Omar (pic) says he resigned as chairman of MISC Bhd chairman as a matter of principle and not because of politics.
Sinar Harian reported the Tanjong Karang MP as saying that he wanted to focus more on the people and the country.
"When I am appointed to a position I have to look at the contribution and service I can give to the people as well as helping improve policies.
"Being appointed as MISC chairman with allowances of almost RM30,000 is not the main goal. As an MP, I have to think of my contribution – not only to the residents of Tanjong Karang but of the whole country," he was quoted as saying on Friday (June 19).
Noh, the former urban well-being, housing and local government minister, stepped down as chairman just 16 days after being appointed to the position on June 1.
He said that the position was only suited for corporate figures or political retirees as it was profit-oriented and only focused on the company.
"Tan Sri Noh Omar made the decision to tender his resignation upon discussion with the honourable Prime Minister of Malaysia, " MISC said on Thursday (June 18).
Noh was among the Perikatan Nasional MPs given positions in government-linked companies, a move that the Opposition claims was to shore up support for the coalition. - Star
