Wan Saiful: PN offers more stability than Harapan

Malaysiakini

Perikatan Nasional could potentially be more stable than Pakatan Harapan and better than BN, said Bersatu supreme council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan.
In a statement today, he said unlike the short-lived Harapan administration, PN had restored the Malays at the core of political leadership.
Wan Saiful (above) said Harapan does not have the Malay support because DAP and PKR are not "Malay parties". Out of the 113 seats won by Harapan during the 2018 election (excluding Warisan), only 20 seats were won by "Malay parties".
He said studies have also estimated that only 25 percent of Malays backed Harapan during the 2018 general election while receiving overwhelming support from the Chinese and Indians.
"The Harapan administration is one that clearly does not have the support of the Malays. For the first time since Independence, Malays felt they have lost political power.
"This is a drastic change (for Malays) because it changed the tone of discussions in government and changed perceptions towards the government, leading to worries among the Malays.
"Yes, we dream of a day where race and religion do not divide the people but such efforts take time and we are not there yet. We must accept reality and not solely be driven by ideology," he said.
The Harapan administration, said Wan Saiful, was influenced by those whom he termed as the "Bangsar Bubble" - a term colloquially used to describe liberal and progressive thought - causing concern among the Malays.
"This (Bangsar Bubble) is very influential in Harapan because DAP and PKR supporters are detached from the reality of most Malays.
"Because PKR and DAP controlled 80 percent of Harapan, they designed Harapan's ideas," he added.
Now that Malay parties have come under the PN umbrella, Malaysians will feel comfortable because the core structure of the country - Malay leadership - had been restored.
"This stability will allow PN to repair the country in a peaceful environment," he said.
Meanwhile, Wan Saiful said PN is more stable because Muhyiddin Yassin is supported by all component parties, which he added does not have a viable candidate for the premiership.
"Muhyiddin does not have court cases (to deal with) or excess baggage. In fact, he was someone who fought kleptocracy before.
"His credentials, be it in fighting graft or protecting Malay institutions, cannot be questioned by anyone," he said.
Conversely, Wan Saiful pointed out that the Harapan administration was not stable because it was always dogged by the power tussle between Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar Ibrahim. - Mkini
