Warisan chairperson Liew Vui Keong has confirmed that his party has taken a stand to support Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the prime minister for Pakatan Harapan Plus over PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.
When contacted, he said Warisan has been consistent in its support for Mahathir to helm the country.
"We have (reiterated) our stand in February. I believe that we will not change our position," he said.
He was asked to confirm if Warisan stood firm on naming Mahathir as the prime minister candidate during the Harapan Plus meeting held in recent weeks as according to DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke.
In an interview with Malaysiakini yesterday, Loke revealed that Warisan opposed the Anwar-Mukhriz Mahathir combination for two top positions should the opposition wrest back Putrajaya.
DAP also urged PKR to reveal if it supports Mahathir's bid to be prime minister again for six months.
Liew (above) urged Harapan Plus, which is currently in dilemma over the coalition's premiership candidate, to resolve the matter as soon as possible.
"We must decide on the issue as quickly as possible because I think we are tired of who should become the prime minister," he said.
Asked why Warisan not in favour of Anwar (above) as premiership candidate, Liew said they just want to be consistent in their decision.
"We still believe that Mahathir should be in the country's administration. At this moment, the country is still probably looking at him as the prime minister," said the Batu Sapi MP.
"I have no doubt Anwar will take over (as prime minister) and I am sure he is capable to be the prime minister. But I think (he) has to wait. He has to be patient, his time will come.”
He, however, declined to offer a clear answer whether Warisan will support Anwar to succeed Mahathir if the nonagenarian is back in power.
"We will cross the bridge when we get there," he said. - Mkini
