Anna Jenkins’ family may seek inquest, says lawyer

Anna Jenkins.
GEORGE TOWN: The family of Anna Jenkins, the Penang-born Australian woman reported missing three years ago, has thanked kind-hearted Malaysians who have helped in providing evidence that led to the finding of her remains.
Anna’s son, Greg Jenkins, at a press conference here today, expressed gratitude to those who provided the evidence, as well to the authorities for the effort put into their investigations.
He also thanked those who have extended their kind assistance during the family’s trying times.
“We, the Jenkins family shall seek justice, the truth and closure for our beloved mother, for her, for our family, for those who have shown their love in this trying times and for the many kind-hearted Malaysians,” he said while sobbing.
He also presented a token of appreciation to Kebun Bunga state assemblyman Jason Ong Khan Lee, who represented the unnamed Malaysian who provided evidence of Anna’s possessions, clothing and human remains.
On Aug 11, a DNA test on a pelvic bone found in a bushy area near Jalan Batu Gantung on June 24 was found to match the missing Australian woman.
Greg’s solicitor S. Raveentharan said Greg had collected Anna’s possessions yesterday, as well as the DNA test results.
Raveentharan said he will wait for the autopsy report, and will consider putting in a request for an inquest if necessary.
“At this point, it is important for the Royal Malaysia Police to investigate this case for the Jenkins family and I will initiate appropriate measures upon the progress of this investigation,” he added.
Annapuranee Jenkins, 65, was said to have left her hotel room in 2017 to go to a dental clinic in Pulau Tikus. She had asked the hotel staff to book an e-hailing vehicle to take her to a welfare home in Batu Lancang after the dental treatment.
She then asked the driver to drop her off at the traffic lights in Jalan Scotland and for safety reasons, the driver let her off near a school. She was reported missing since and her husband lodged a police report on the case. - FMT
