Ex chief justice Tan Sri Richard Malanjum to enter politics?

KOTA KINABALU: With less than three weeks to go before nomination day on Sept 12, all major Sabah parties and their allies have yet to reach a consensus over seat distribution. And they have not finalised their candidates list.
As most parties are still in the midst of discussing the details, netizens on social media have begun speculating on who would contest or who they wished to see contesting in which state constituency.
It piqued one and all's interest, especially when a particular list, allegedly made up of allied candidates of Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) had gone viral on a social media platform
The alleged list among others speculated that former chief justice Tan Sri Richard Malanjum had been picked to stand at the Bingkor state assembly seat under the Warisan banner.
Malanjum was known for his 'service-first' approach from the time he was called to the judiciary in 1992.
He was made fourth chief judge for Sabah and Sarawak in 2006 and introduced mobile court to reach out to the underprivileged in the interior of the two states.
Malanjum served for 27 years in the judiciary before retiring last year.
He established a non-governmental organisation, OSIMAL, which assists in providing welfare aid to rural folks.
When contacted via text message on the viraled list, Malanjum said it was fake news.
However, the 68-year-old playfully said he was "waiting for inspiration" when asked whether he is backing Warisan or is in support of any political party.
He also did not confirm nor deny when pressed if he is going to get involved in politics at this time.
Warisan vice-president Datuk Junz Wong believes the viraled speculative list was aimed at sowing confusion as well as kindle infighting within Warisan, its allies in Sabah Pakatan Harapan and the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation.
He also noted any speculative based candidate list is fake and should not be entertained.
Wong said the people, including the media, should wait for party president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal to make announcement on candidates. - NST
