Exco man asks for federal low-cost housing in Penang

Penang state executive councillor Jagdeep Singh Deo says no PPR projects were listed for Penang.
GEORGE TOWN: The Penang state government has urged the housing ministry to explain the current status of the People’s Housing Projects in Penang.
State executive councillor Jagdeep Singh Deo said: “We would want some clarification from the ministry on the PPR projects’ status in Penang. We hope that the ministry would review and reconsider giving some priority to Penang (by approving our PPR projects).”
He said the chief minister, Chow Kon Yeow, had asked the ministry on Aug 11 about the implementation of PPR projects across the country this year as well as its respective costs.
He said that the ministry had stated that although no new PPR projects have been approved, 11 existing PPR projects had been implemented for a total estimated cost of RM890 million.
“According to the letter, the implementation of the PPR projects approved are located in Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Perlis, Terengganu, Pahang, Kelantan and Sabah. Penang was not one of them,” Jagdeep told a press conference here today.
He cited a statement from housing ministry secretary-general Mohammad Mentek in December last year that the federal government would be building 14 PPR projects in 2020. - FMT
