DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said he feels helpless in his attempt to protect his wife and children.
This is after the MACC plans to charge his wife Betty Chew, a lawyer, for money laundering over legal consultancy she provided to Excel Property Management and Consultancy Sdn Bhd.
"She does not understand why she is charged for money laundering when, as a lawyer, her income is derived from her legal fees," he said.
Lim said previously, his son was also the target of political operatives.
"In 2011, my 15-year-old son was viciously attacked by Umno Youth leader Papagomo or Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris. Wan accused my 15-year-old son of sexually molesting his female classmate in his school in Penang.
"At such a tender age facing the lies and accusations of the entire BN media machinery, he suffered and I felt helpless for being unable to protect him as a father. Even though the 'alleged victim', school principal and the Penang Education Department denied such an incident took place, no action was taken by the police against Papagomo for spreading such despicable lies," he added.
Lim said Wan Muhammad Azri early this March again claimed Lim's son was arrested for trying to smuggle RM2 million cash at Singapore International Airport. Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador denied there was any such arrest.
He said no charges were brought against Wan Muhammad Azri (above) three months after the investigation papers were submitted to the Attorney-General's Chambers but his wife is now being charged four days after being questioned by the MACC.
Lim said his family also suffered when he was detained in 1987 under the Internal Security Act 1987 and jailed in 1998 for taking up the case of the alleged underage rape case involving a former Malacca chief minister.
"I have felt helpless in failing to protect my children. Now I feel equally helpless in failing to protect my wife.
"To our political enemies out there, go for me as much as you want, but leave my family alone," he said.
On Aug 7, Lim was charged with allegedly soliciting bribes in connection with the RM6.3 billion Penang undersea tunnel project.
He is expected to face more charges tomorrow. - Mkini
