Indira to IGP: Hunger strike if no news of Prasana by Aug 31

Malaysiakini

M Indira Gandhi will launch a hunger strike if Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Abdul Hamid Bador does not fulfil his promise of meeting and informing her about her long lost daughter Prasana Diksa by Aug 31.
Back in January, the IGP revealed he knew the whereabouts of her former husband Muhammad Riduan Abdullah and urged him to surrender himself.
This is despite an arrest warrant from the Federal Court for Ridhuan, who had taken Prasana with him.
In an open letter to Hamid today, the Indira Gandhi Action Team (Ingat) representing Indira (above) urged for a meeting with the top cop.
They also wanted him to explain why Prasana had not been returned to her mother and to share updates on the police’s quest for the teenager.
“Indira and Ingat are planning to hold a 'happy ending hunger strike' at the grounds of federal police headquarters Bukit Aman on Sept 11 from 9am to 5pm if the IGP (does not do these things),” it said.
The “happy ending” term derives from a previous comment Hamid made, indicating he hoped Ridhuan and Indira would be able to resolve their 10-year tussle over their daughter amicably.
“We call upon the goodwill of the police and IGP to cooperate in immediately upholding the Federal Court’s decision without delay,” Ingat added.
Prasana was an infant when her father Ridhuan, previously named K Pathmanathan, took her away in 2009 after converting to Islam.
Ridhuan and Indira were later engaged in a tightly watched interfaith custody battle after he unilaterally converted Prasana and their two other children to Islam.
In 2014, the Ipoh High Court ordered the police to retrieve Prasana from her father.
In 2016, the Federal Court ordered the IGP to arrest Ridhuan.
In 2018, the Federal Court unanimously ruled that unilateral conversions of children were unlawful as such decisions needed permission from both parents.
It also issued a warrant of arrest for Ridhuan.  - Mkini
