The MACC will obtain from the finance ministry a list of the 101 projects or government procurements worth RM6.1 billion which were allegedly awarded by the previous Pakatan Harapan administration.
"A thorough study will be done to determine whether there exist elements of corruption, irregularities, or abuse of power related to the matter.
"In relation to that, the MACC urges all parties to give room for us to study the matter," the anti-graft body said in a statement today.
The MACC also confirmed they have received several memorandums from various NGOs on the contracts allegedly awarded via direct tender. This issue was first revealed by Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
Tengku Zafrul sparked an uproar in Parliament in his response to Pontian MP Ahmad Maslan who had asked whether there were any direct negotiations under the Harapan administration, how many were there and what was the total value.
Responding to heckling from government MPs in Parliament, former finance minister Lim Guan Eng said the projects in question had received cabinet approval.
This was later denied by International Trade and Industries Minister Azmin Ali, who previously served as the economic affairs minister in the Harapan government.
Since then, calls have been made from Umno and PAS for the PN government to make public the list of companies that were awarded the contracts.
Earlier today, Umno supreme council member Razlan Rafii urged the government to cancel the contracts or risk being perceived as being in collusion with Harapan to allegedly abuse public funds.
Meanwhile, according to Bernama, Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) today lodged a report with the MACC on the matter.
Party vice-president R Muralitharan (above) said the MACC should also investigate the alleged misconduct and abuse of power by Lim as the direct-negotiation projects were awarded by the finance ministry.
PCM also wants the commission to probe the approval procedures and qualifications of the companies involved in the projects. He spoke to reporters before filing the report at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.
An MACC spokesperson, when contacted, confirmed receiving the report. - Mkini
