Not compulsory for business premises to record temperature in book - minister

Malaysiakini

It is not compulsory for businesses to record in a book the screened temperature of customers wishing to enter its premises, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob today.
He urged business operators who were compounded over the non-recording of customers' temperature in a book, to contact the authorities responsible for the fine.
Ismail explained that the purpose of the standard operating procedure of temperature screening is only to ensure that those who enter the premises do not have a reading exceeding 37.5°C.
“The purpose (of temperature screening) is to ensure they (potential customers) do not have one of the (possible) symptoms (of Covid-19). If the temperature is less than 37.6°C, they have permission to enter.
“Therefore, it is not compulsory to record the temperature (in a book). The temperature screening is just to see whether (a customer, among others) can be allowed to enter or not.
“If (the temperature) is not recorded (in a book), no action can be taken (against the premises' operator)," he said.
The defence minister stressed that the most important piece of information that needs to be recorded is the telephone number of those who visit business premises.
This, he said, is to ensure that in the event that a Covid-19 positive case is detected at the premises, customers can be contacted immediately for contact tracing.
He was answering a question from the media following his press conference at Putrajaya, which was streamed online this afternoon.
The question was over the issue of business owners being fined for not jotting down into a book the temperature of those who have entered their premises.
To a further question on what action affected traders can take if they have been compounded over the matter, Ismail reiterated that the business operators have not committed any wrong.
“(The traders’ action) is not wrong. I hope that they will contact the authorities who took such action against them,” Ismail added. - Mkini
