The Muafakat Nasional (MN) political pact can last as long as all parties involved depend on each other and there is no dominant party, said PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
He stressed that respectful negotiation between parties is important to ensure the coalition is managed well.
“Whether a coalition can last or not depends on how we manage it. When we manage it properly and respectfully, then I am confident it can last a long time.
“Especially when it comes to dominance, all parties have to depend on each other. If there is anyone dominating, then it will not last long.
“That is why, if any issues arise, we need to sit down and negotiate about it and I hope MN can last well into the future for the sake of the country’s future,” he said.
Tuan Ibrahim, who is the Kubang Kerian MP, was asked how long MN can last as a stable coalition. He spoke to the media after presenting a contribution and Covid-19 kits to educational institutions in Kota Bharu today.
MN was initially a coalition formed in 2019 between PAS and Umno. It was reported recently that Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin accepted an invitation from PAS and Umno to join MN.
Tuan Ibrahim said he welcomed Bersatu joining the coalition.
“I think this is a joyful piece of news, the unity of political parties is very important in strengthening the country’s agenda.
“We will hold a meeting soon to structure our strategy and preparations in facing the Sabah state elections,” he said. - Mkini
