Another 49 test positive for Covid-19 at Proton HQ

After national carmaker Proton announced that one of its employees in a non-customer-facing role from its research and development department had tested positive for Covid-19 on Oct 14, 49 other positive cases have been detected since.

"Proton confirms 49 others have now been detected.

"All are from the Engineering Division in Shah Alam and have been reported to the authorities," Proton said in a statement today.

All non-essential personnel who work within the Shah Alam facility have been requested to work from home as a precautionary measure, it said.

The company also reassured all its customers that it will continue to strictly adhere to all guidelines as it has been doing since the start of the pandemic.

It said the Center of Service Excellence (Cose) and showroom are disinfected hourly and all customer-facing personnel follow a rigorous procedure.

According to an internal memo sighted by Malaysiakini, all employees from the affected department were also required to take a swab test for Covid-19, with the costs being borne by the company.

After the first employee tested positive, Proton said the company conducted disinfection of the premises. Contact tracing was also underway.

The company had assured that the employee was not “customer-facing” and as such, there was less concern about exposure to clients.

Proton also said they immediately put into place their Covid-19 mitigation plan to prevent further spread of the virus. - Mkini
