Budget 2021: Finance minister to receive Harapan delegation

Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz will meet several Pakatan Harapan leaders on Budget 2021 tomorrow.

This followed calls by the Harapan presidential council to Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin for a discussion.

"10 leaders will be allowed to attend the meeting which is scheduled for 3pm to 5pm," said a source familiar with the matter.

On Oct 29, the Harapan presidential council urged Putrajaya to hold such a meeting, in line with the recent decree by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong who advised MPs to put aside their differences and support Budget 2021.

The council's statement was signed by PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng after the council's meeting that Thursday.

A spokesperson from Zafrul's office confirmed that the meeting with Harapan leaders will take place tomorrow and that engagements had begun last week with Warisan vice-president Darell Leiking and Muar MP Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman.

"The engagements are part of the government's efforts to craft a comprehensive budget, taking into account the suggestions of politicians from all sides of the political spectrum," said the spokesperson.

PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, when contacted, confirmed that his party has received an invitation and he would be leading his party's delegation.

Similarly, a senior DAP MP told Malaysiakini that his party has been invited as well and will be sending a delegation.

"Yes. We will meet on Sunday. Every party will send three representatives," he said.

The MP, who wished to remain anonymous, said Harapan leaders will present their joint proposals.

"The federal government wants our support. But how can we support if (Budget 2021) does not touch on the interest of the people?

"Therefore, we will meet them to press on several important issues such as extending the loan moratorium, among others," he said. - FMT
