Anwar's insistence on being PM is just wasting people's time, says Ongkili

KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's insistence on becoming the next prime minister is a waste of people's time, says Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili.

The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) said at present a lot of other pressing issues needed immediate action.

"Our priorities for now should be protecting the people's welfare and well-being, and improving our economy, especially with Malaysia, like the rest of the world, combating Covid-19.

"Containing the spread of this deadly virus is the most important thing now. The people have suffered enough.

"We got better things to do, and we have lots to catch up," the PBS president said in a statement on Wednesday (Oct 14).

He was reacting to Anwar's audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on Tuesday (Oct 13).

Shortly after his audience with the King, Anwar told reporters that he had informed the King that a "formidable majority" of MPs support his bid to become the next prime minister.

However, Istana Negara later in the day said the Opposition leader had only provided numbers but not the names of MPs backing him.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, meanwhile said he would leave it to the wisdom of the King to decide on the claim, as he focused on managing the Covid-19 situation. - Star
