Bersatu women's wing No 2 accepts Sabah appointment, says swearing-in after quarantine

Bersatu women's wing deputy chief Amisah Yassin said she could not be sworn-in as an unelected Sabah legislative assemblyperson today because she was still under quarantine.

She told Malaysiakini that she accepted her appointment in principle but stressed that she had yet to receive her appointment letter because of her circumstances.

"The Istana Negeri will arrange for another day," she said, adding that her quarantine ends on Oct 19.

Four unelected members of the Sabah state legislative assembly were appointed today.

Amisah and Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) former president Yong Teck Lee were supposed to be appointed as well but did not turn up at the Istana Negeri in Kota Kinabalu this morning.

When contacted by Malaysiakini, Yong acknowledged that he received the appointment letter but did not explain his absence.

Sabah's state constitution allows for the appointment of six unelected assemblypersons with full voting rights on top of its 73 elected members.

If Amisah is eventually appointed, she will be one of three female lawmakers on the government bench. - Mkini
