GEORGE TOWN: It was a close shave for patrons at the Traffic Court canteen here when part of the ceiling came crashing down.
A 2m by 1.5m plaster ceiling board fell, smashing a marble table in the 12.15pm incident on Friday (Oct 9).
A handful of people who were having their lunch narrowly missed being hit by the plaster ceiling that fell onto a vacant marble table.
A journalist, who was sitting less than two feet away, narrowly missed being hit by the debris.
"I was having tea and working on a court story.
"Then it sounded like a thunderstorm and when I looked up, the ceiling came down.
"There was a plume of dust and large cockroaches flying all over.
"Then a bird’s nest fell down with three hatchlings,” he said, adding that he placed them safely in a box.
More birds’ nests and cockroaches could be seen in the ceiling.
The cafeteria is a popular spot for police, lawyers and journalists during lunch hour.
The cafeteria operator alerted the court registrar’s office about the incident. - Star
