Conditional MCO at Kedah village after Covid-19 detected in 5 families

COVID-19 | The government today announced that a conditional movement control order (MCO) will be enforced at Kampung Padang Che Mas, Baling, Kedah, from Oct 18 to Oct 31.

Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob (above) said this comes after the detection of 25 positive Covid-19 cases involving five families, following a targeted screening of 236 individuals who were issued with a 14-day home quarantine order.

"Another 100 individuals are still waiting for their results," said Ismail during the daily Covid-19 update press conference, live on Facebook.

The conditional MCO will involve 1,150 villagers from 150 households in the area, he added.

Ismail reiterated that standard operating procedures already in place at other areas under conditional MCO will be enforced at Kampung Padang Che Mas, such as the closure of all schools including private religious classes (sekolah pondok).

Religious activities at non-Muslim houses of worships are forbidden while mosques may only be opened for the five daily prayers, with only six people in a congregation including the imam and muazzin who recites the call to prayer.

On Oct 11, the Kedah Education Department had announced a one week closure of SMK Baling and SMK Bukit Payong, both in Baling, as well as SK Bukit Pak Kiau in Pokok Sena.

As of yesterday, Kedah recorded 1,394 active cases, and 32 total active cases in Baling.  - Mkini
