COVID-19 | Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob today announced the reopening of gymnasiums in areas under the conditional movement control order, as well as a relaxation of the two-person per car rule for immediate family members from the same household.
Ismail said the government had considered an appeal from the Youth and Sports Ministry to allow operations of gymnasiums as well as indoor futsal courts.
"Given those activities in the gymnasium are carried out individually and with social distancing, not in close contact, the meeting today has decided to allow operations of gymnasiums with strict standard operating procedures," Ismail said during his daily Covid-19 update press conference.
Ismail also announced that commercial football pitch and indoor futsal courts can also open for training sessions, but limited to only 10 players at one time.
"This permission will take effect on Monday, Oct 19, and further procedures will be announced by the Youth and Sports Ministry," he said.
Meanwhile, Ismail noted a recently reported case of a chicken rice seller from Jenjarom, whose three passengers were fined RM1,000 each on Oct 14 while on the way home from their family-run stall in USJ4, Subang Jaya.
"We have received advice from the police, and the police have advised any individuals involved in (family) businesses such as these, whereby they needed to have more than two people in one car, to report to the police and obtain a permission letter.
"This is to avoid issues that end up with them being fined by the police," he said.
Ismail added that today would be the last day for him to conduct the press conference from his house, where is he is serving home quarantine, after earlier receiving his second negative Covid-19 test results.
Community paper SJ Echo yesterday highlighted the dilemma faced by local chicken rice seller Seow Boon Seong who operates a stall with his two sisters and a nephew.
Seow reportedly said the 30km distance from Jenjarom and the fact that the remaining three were unable to drive had forced them to travel in the same car, despite conditional MCO restrictions. - Mkini
