PETALING JAYA: Police have busted an alcohol distribution syndicate in the Klang Valley, seizing cartons of alcoholic drinks and illicit cigarettes worth more than RM1.2 million.
Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department deputy director Fisol Salleh said four Malaysians and two Indonesian men between the ages of 19 to 40 were arrested in the operation.
“There were 2,522 cartons of beer, 1,082 boxes of liquor and 49 cartons of illicit cigarettes seized.
“Also seized were a sword, two containers and four cars, comprising a Toyota Alphard, Ford Ranger, Perodua Axia and Proton Persona. The estimated sum of the items seized is RM1,852,450,” he said in a statement today.
The syndicate was taken down following tip-offs from the public.
The six suspects will be remanded for seven days until Oct 12 under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code for further investigations. One suspect has a criminal record.
The case will be investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967, Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958. - FMT
